Parsha Retrospective – Smiles, everyone! Smiles!

This past Shabbos, in Parshas Vayechi, we read the blessings of Yaakov to his sons. Yehuda, the son who would be the monarch, as well as the paradigm for Jews for millennia, was blessed to have, “teeth, white from milk.”

The Gemara quotes R’ Yochanan (Kesubos 111b) that one who shows his friend the white of his teeth (read: SMILE) is better than one who gives him a glass of milk.

Young Man Laughing

As nourishing and necessary as milk is for the body, so is a smile nourishing and necessary for body, mind, and soul.

Be a giver. It costs nothing and the more smiles you give away, the more you are guaranteed to get back.
